Staying healthy has never been easy, but thanks to AI, making smarter choices is becoming more accessible than ever. Technology has always played a role in shaping how we take care of our health, but artificial intelligence (AI) is now becoming a bigger part of that conversation. It’s changing the way we track nutrition, plan workouts, and receive coaching, making expert guidance more accessible. But what does this mean for real people trying to make healthier choices?

To understand how AI is transforming health and wellness, we spoke with Ro Huntriss, a leading expert in nutrition and AI-driven wellness solutions.

Ro Huntriss, registered dietitian and Chief Nutrition Officer at Simple App, explained, “AI is reshaping the way we approach health and wellness. Traditionally, personalized health support was available through one-on-one coaching or healthcare professional support, which—while effective—is not scalable. The reality is that far more people need support in improving their nutrition, fitness, and overall health and well-being than there are coaches or healthcare professionals available. AI is bridging that gap by making expert-level guidance more accessible, scalable, and efficient than ever before.”

According to Huntriss, one of the biggest shifts AI has brought to the wellness space is its ability to deliver personalized coaching instantly. She explains that, unlike traditional coaching—where individuals may have to wait days for feedback—AI can analyze patterns in eating habits, physical activity, and even mood to provide tailored recommendations in real time. “AI can detect patterns in eating habits, symptoms, activity levels, and even mood, providing deeper insights into how lifestyle choices impact health. By spotting trends early, users can prevent setbacks and make proactive changes,” Huntriss told us.

Another major advancement is food tracking. Many people struggle to maintain food diaries because it’s time-consuming, but AI has made it nearly effortless.

“Even in areas like food tracking, AI has eliminated the tedious manual process of logging meals. With technologies like Simple’s Avo Vision, users can snap a picture of their food and receive instant feedback—no more weighing food or manually inputting data. AI is effortless, fast, and scalable, allowing millions of people to benefit from personalized insights without the traditional barriers.”

Fitness has also been impacted by AI, particularly in how workouts are designed. “Custom workout plans used to take trainers hours to design. Now, AI creates personalized programs in seconds, based on user preferences, fitness level, and goals,” Huntriss explained.

Even body assessments, which traditionally required specialized equipment, are now being enhanced by AI. “AI is now able to relatively assess someone’s weight and body fat percentage through a scan without the need for scales. The accuracy is reasonable right now, and will only get better,” she added.

While AI has made strides in making health and fitness more accessible, it’s important to remember that it’s just a tool. It can provide valuable insights, but it’s not a replacement for professional medical advice.

“AI simplifies tracking, planning, and decision-making, so use it to make health changes easier. However, always consult a healthcare professional for medical concerns,” Huntriss noted. She also emphasizes that while AI can identify trends and suggest actions, mental and emotional health still require a human touch. “AI agents may hold data about you, but they may not know everything about your current health status, including your mental or emotional health. Make sure you still pay attention to this and make decisions with you at the center.”

AI is an incredible tool, but at the end of the day, it’s just that—a tool. The best results come when we combine technology with our own intuition and expert guidance. So, why not take advantage of AI while still listening to your body?
